Tips For Plumbing In Jacksonville, Fl

byadmin

You probably don’t think about your pipes very often; you flush the toilet or unplug the drain and the water just disappears. It’s the definition of “out of sight and out of mind.” However, when something goes wrong, your plumbing is just about the only thing you can think about. Luckily, pipe problems tend not to happen suddenly. They have a few warning signs. Before you call a plumber, you should troubleshoot any potential problems to make sure that they aren’t something you can solve yourself. A plumber can be very expensive, and it would be a shame to hire one when you really just needed a little elbow grease.

Clogged Tub Drain

A clogged tub drain is probably the most common problem with your pipes, especially if you live in a household with long-haired individuals. Hair and soap are two of the most common culprits. The first thing you can do is attempt to clear it with a liquid rooter such as Drano. Follow very precisely the instructions on the package. Alternately, you can invest in a snake from the local hardware store. A drain snake can be used over and over, so it’s probably the better choice. If none of that works, you should call someone who specializes in plumbing in Jacksonville, FL.

Low Water Pressure

Low water pressure could be the result of many different things. If it is cold outside, you might have pipes that are partially frozen. Run the water in a steady stream for a few minutes; if ice is the culprit, the moving water will melt it. If it’s not cold outside, you might have a clog somewhere from the main to your fixture. Test other fixtures. If multiple fixtures have low water pressure, you have a serious plumbing problem brewing. If it’s only the one, you might still need to call a plumber but it’s not quite as urgent of a problem.

Open source game developer Perttu Ahola talks about Minetest with Wikinews

Tuesday, June 30, 2020

Recently, Finnish open-source video game developer Perttu Ahola discussed Minetest, his “longest ever project”, with Wikinews.

Started in October 2010, Minetest was an attempt by Ahola to create a sandbox game similar to Minecraft. Minecraft is a multi-platform commercial game, which was in alpha version when Ahola challenged himself to create something similar to it from scratch, he told Wikinews.

Minetest is an open-source game, which is free for anyone to download and play. It is written in the C++ programming language, and the source code is available on code-hosting site GitHub. According to Ahola, Minetest attempts to run on older hardware, with limited graphics, but to be accessible to more people: those who have outdated technology, and making it available for no cost. Minecraft, on the other hand, is a paid game, currently costing USD 26.95 for its computer version. Minecraft is currently owned by Microsoft, and performs poorly on older hardware.

A correspondent from French Wikinews contacted Perttu Ahola via Internet Relay Chat a few weeks ago, discussing Minecraft. This interview is built on top of the previous interview, as we take a deeper dive into knowing more about this free game which is about to turn ten years old in a few months.

Calls for bottled water bans grow in Canada

Saturday, August 23, 2008

London, Ontario is the latest in a string of Canadian cities to have acted on increasing public demand to ban bottled water. On Monday, the decision to eliminate bottled water sales in city-run facilities was passed by London’s city council with a vote of 15-3 in favour. The move was driven by a desire to reduce waste and shipping, have a lower impact on the environment and promote tap water as a cheap and safe alternative.

London’s new restrictions will be implemented over the next several months in buildings that are already equipped with water fountains. Bottled water will still be permitted at many city-run events, such as upcoming summer festivals. Privately-owned retailers will not be affected by the ban.

Other cities, such as Vancouver, Ottawa and Kitchener, that are already engaged in debate on the issue, may now be watching London carefully for how the ban plays out. Other areas have already begun to phone London with questions on the details of its new regulations. Toronto has begun taking a look at bottled water packaging as part of its waste diversion strategy, and its public school board is looking into the possibility of a total restriction on bottled water sales.

In recent years, an awareness of the energy that is required to manufacture, transport and recycle the product has spread nation-wide. Proponents of the ban point to the fact that it can produce as much as 150 times the volume of greenhouse gas when producing bottled water as compared to supplying the same volume of tap water. They also point out that the water that goes into bottled water products is not inspected as frequently as tap water in Canadian cities.

Some have taken this cause to heart more than others, such as British Environment Minister Phil Woolas, who called the use of bottled water “morally unacceptable.” Restaurant critic Giles Coren of The Times of London criticizes those who use the product as “the new smokers.”

Canada’s beverage industry has come down with criticism on the increasing opposition to bottled water. Spokesman Scott Tabachnick for Coca-Cola Co., which produces Dasani brand bottled water, commented on the convenience of the product: “It’s hard to bring your kitchen sink with you.”

It’s hard to bring your kitchen sink with you.

Vancouver City Councillor Tim Stevenson thinks that bottled water’s time has come and gone: “Bottled water companies have had a fabulous ride on an unnecessary fad.” Vancouver officials are still determining how bottled water restrictions, which have been voted for by the City Council, can be phased in.

Next month, the city is planning to initiate a marketing campaign encouraging Vancouver residents to choose tap water and to remember to carry reusable drinking containers whenever possible.

Renowned environmental activist Dr. David Suzuki has praised London’s decision, saying that it represents a turning point for people’s perceptions on the issue: “I’m really delighted that London has done this because it really makes us focus on some fundamental issues.” He hopes that someday people will “look at anyone who hauls out a bottle of water and say, ‘What the hell’s wrong with you?'”

US automaker bailout deal fails to pass Senate

Friday, December 12, 2008

A US$14 billion bailout package deal for the “Big Three” United States automakers — Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors — has been rejected in the United States Senate after failing a procedural vote.

The bill was rejected after bipartisan discussions on the bailout broke down when Republican Party leaders insisted that the United Auto Workers (UAW) union agree to increase wage cuts by next year in order to bring their pay into line with those of Japanese automobile companies in the United States. The UAW refused to meet the demands.

The final vote count in the Senate was 52-35, eight short of the 60 needed to pass. Only ten Republicans joined forty Democrats and two independents in voting for the bill. Three Democrats voted with thirty-one Republicans against it.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid said that he was “terribly disappointed” by the failure of the bill to pass. “I dread looking at Wall Street tomorrow. It’s not going to be a pleasant sight,” Reid said. “Millions of Americans, not only the auto workers but people who sell cars, car dealerships, people who work on cars are going to be directly impacted and affected.”

Republican Senator Bob Corker was also unhappy about the rejection. “We were about three words away from a deal. We solved everything substantively and about three words keep us from reaching a conclusion,” he said.

Some Democrats now want U.S. President Bush to reserve a portion of the $700 billion bailout package earmarked for Wall Street to assist the flagging car industry.

Stock markets worldwide fell dramatically on the news, with Japan’s Nikkei average losing 484.68 points, or 5.6 percent, reaching a level of 8253.87 points. Shares in the auto companies Toyota, Nissan and Honda all dropped by no less than 10 percent apiece. European stocks, such as those in the United Kingdom and Germany, also lost ground, with the FTSE-100 index of leading shares falling 176.3 points to a level of 4,211 at midday.

Most problems are benign when it comes to plumbing issues. A simple leaking pipe or faucet can be more of an annoyance than a problem to most homeowners. While they may seem benign, a leak can cause more problems than you may realize if given enough time. Mold is one of the biggest side effects to any plumbing issue that involves the build up of water. Where any water begins to stand in a home, mold can begin to grow. The more moist a place happens to be, the higher the risk of mold growth there will be. Repairing leaking pipes and faucets as quickly as possible is one of the only ways to lessen the chance of there being a mold presence in your home. Mold can cause a variety of health concerns for your family, and should never be left to exist in your home.

A professional Plumbing Service in Tucson can do more than just repair a leak in your home. They can also help where clogged drains and septic lines are a concern. These two types of situations can cause a lot more than just a mess in your home. Clogged septic lines can easily cause back pressure in your piping, which can damage the piping itself, as well as cause water damage in areas where water backs up into your home.

Police shoot teenage protester as Hong Kong demonstrations continue

Wednesday, October 2, 2019

For the first time in the sixteen weeks of protests in Hong Kong, police fired and landed a live round on a protester yesterday. The victim, eighteen-years-old and a high school student, was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery and is reported to be in critical condition. The shooting took place in the Tsuen Wan district. Although the police have used force against protesters before, this is the first report of a protester being shot with live ammunition.

Footage from the City University Student Union showed a group of protesters throwing things as they ran away from police. The video showed a single police officer surrounded by protesters; he then drew his pistol, pointed it, and shot at one person. This person fell to the ground as the other protesters ran away.

Police Senior Superintendent Yolanda Yu Hoi-kwan said at a press conference: “The police officers’ lives were seriously threatened. To save his own and his colleagues’ lives, he fired a live shot at the attacker.” Amnesty International has called for an investigation into the shooting.

In other parts of the city, the police used water canons and tear gas against protesters. Some protesters responded by throwing things, including Molotov cocktails, but others only shielded themselves with umbrellas and did not return the attack. Violence continued through the evening and the news network RTHK withdrew its reporters from the field after one of them was injured in the face. Sixty-six people or more were injured yesterday according to health officials, ranging in age from eleven to 75.

Yesterday was the 70th anniversary of the Communist Party’s takeover of China. On the mainland, it was celebrated as a holiday called National Day, but in Hong Kong it was met with protests and mourning.

The protests began in June in response to a proposed new law that would have allowed the Chinese government to extradite people accused of crimes from Hong Kong and try them under the mainland’s legal system. The protests have since transitioned to focus on other issues associated with Chinese encroachment on Hong Konger’s rights, such as the way the Hong Kong legislature is elected, and on the actions of police toward protesters.

Prosecutors drop assault case against former US VP Gore

Sunday, August 1, 2010

Former United States vice president Al Gore will not be facing assault charges due to allegations made by a masseuse in 2006, according to the Portland, Oregon district attorney’s office.

Molly Hagerty, 54, claimed Gore “sexually assault[ed] me in his [hotel] room.” Hagerty was called to Gore’s Portland hotel room to give him a massage. Hagerty said Gore pinned her down and “he kept trying to have sex with [her].”

Prosecutors closed the case, but after tabloid National Inquirer interviewed Hagerty they reopened the case. Hagerty refused to take a polygraph test.

Deputy DA Don Rees said there is “contradictory evidence, conflicting witness statements, credibility issues, lack of forensic evidence, and denials by Mr. Gore.”

Rees continued saying Hagerty and her attorneys were uncooperative in the investigation.

Outdoor Shed Plans Construct A Shed Foundation The Right Way}

Outdoor Shed Plans – Construct a Shed Foundation The Right Way

by

Cole maxBuilding a shed can appear to be quite a challenge to amateur woodworkers. Build a flat, firm and level shed foundation and the rest is more or less simple. Constructing the foundation for a shed is not that difficult for one person to do alone. However, it is good to have a second person to help you lift the timber.

It is good to consult your local building council to check if you need any building permits. This can vary from area to area. Choose the construction site wisely. Make sure it is easily accessible. Check that there are no trees or shrubs growing near the shed. The shed must be situated in an area which receives ample sunlight and air.

It is very critical to have a dry and level foundation. It is impractical to build a shed on an uneven foundation. This will prevent the wall sections from fitting into place when you try to secure them to each other. For sheds which will need to hold heavy items, it is recommended to build a concrete foundation. The two most common methods of building the shed foundation are as follows.

I.The Slab Foundation Method

II.1.As in the previous method, select a suitable location for building the foundation and mark the land by driving wooden stakes into the four corners. Make sure the ground is level by checking the angles.2.Remove the dirt from the ground and dig a hole about 2.5 inches deep. Level the ground and remove the stakes.3.Mix cement and sand in a ratio of 1:8 and make a dry mixture. Pour this into the ground about 2 inches deep and pat it level. Starting from the corner and moving outwards, lay down the slabs. Use a spirit level to make sure all the foundations are firm and level.4.Finally check once more to be absolutely sure that the base is flat and square by measuring the diagonals. Remove any excess sand from the edges. Now you have a perfectly solid, level and firm foundation for building your shed.

II. The Concrete Floor Method

1.Use stakes and thread to mark out the ground for building the foundation. Take care that it should be at least 2 inch larger than the size of the shed. Measure the diagonals to ensure that the land is perfectly square.2.Dig the ground about six inches deep. Level the ground using a spade and firm the bottom soil. Take away the stakes.3.Cut timber boards for building the framework which will hold the concrete in place as it dries. Measure the diagonals to ensure that the framework is square. Finally, check if the framework is level.4.Lay down a covering of compressed gravel about 3 inches deep. Mix the cement with ballast in a ratio of 1:5. Keep adding small quantities of water the mixture as you mix but make sure it doesn’t become too diluted. Pour the concrete into the foundation and completely fill the framework to the top. The excess of concrete can be leveled down with the edge of a timber board by using a cutting motion along the entire top of the freshly laid concrete.5.If you are expecting rains then cover the concrete with plastic for a day. If there is excess of sunshine, cover the concrete with wet bags and periodically water them throughout the day. This will prevent the concrete from drying too quickly and developing cracks.
